The NASWGA Clinical Supervision Program is Back, Better and Revamped! Endorsed by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Continuing Education Credentialing Program.
What is Supervision? Supervision is the direct clinical review, for the purpose of training or teaching, by a supervisor of a Social Worker’s interaction with clients. The purpose of supervision shall be to promote the development of the practitioner’s clinical skills. Supervision may include, without being limited to, the review of case presentations, audiotapes, videotapes, and direct observation.

Course Details & Program Benefits:
The overall program aims to broaden the continuing education alternatives available to social workers in Georgia. The course offers a consistent Clinical Supervision Program with well-developed and relevant content. Overall, the program aims to provide supervisors with Competency-Based Monitoring and Mentoring, an understanding of supervisory styles and techniques, and the essential skills needed to manage challenging supervisees and situations and, finally, to supervise the potential clinical practitioner at various stages of clinical development.

Those who complete the 24-hr. course and exam are placed on the NASWGA Registry of Certified Supervisors for two years. To stay on the registry, one must obtain recertification. This Introduction to Supervision consists of 18 Core Hours and 6 Ethics Hours of training for a total of 24 continuing education hours.

The Introductory Curriculum is comprised of 4 Modules.  Topics for the
Introductory Course include an Overview of Supervisory Essentials, Infrastructure to Support the Supervisory Process, Cultural Diversity in Supervision and Clinical Practice, and Ethics in Supervision.

Charles Safford is the President and owner of yourceus.com, Inc., a company that develops and markets web-based and live continuing education training for mental health clinicians on a nationwide basis. Mr. Safford has been
providing counseling services since he received his graduate degree from Boston University in 1981 and has been in private practice since 1985. Since moving to Atlanta in 1988, he has also been involved in developing and delivering innovative training programs for numerous audiences. In 2001, he merged his training and therapy skills to create yourceus.com, Inc., a company that teaches and trains mental health clinicians on a nationwide basis, offering both live and web-based programs encompassing the best and most recent knowledge and skills in the field of mental health.
Lucy R. Cannon, Ed.D., LCSW, LICSW, CAADC

Dr. Lucy Cannon is the CEO/Owner of LEJ Behavioral Health Services, LLC, a training and consulting company in Metropolitan Atlanta. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Georgia and Alabama.  She has the following licenses and certifications: LCSW, LICSW, CCDP-D, and MATS.  Dr. Cannon has
been a clinician, supervisor, director, and consultant of mental health and co-occurring disorders programs in inpatient and outpatient healthcare organizations and psychiatric hospitals in various states
in the United States and Camp Zama, Japan. She is an Adjunct Professor at Clark Atlanta University School of Social Work. She is also a Facilitator/Speaker for the United States Navy Reserve Command. She is a trainer for various local and national healthcare organizations. She also serves on various healthcare organizations boards of directors and advisory boards.
Required Criteria/Prerequisites to Register for the NASWGA Certified Clinical Supervision Program and Receive the Certification:
 
*Must be licensed as a Georgia Social Worker with a valid license number and has practiced Clinical Social Work for a minimum of 3 years post social work master's degree under the supervision of a clinical social worker for 2 years. See GA Licensure Rule 135-5-.04(b)(1).
 
Must have practiced in their Specialty for a minimum of 2 years.  See GA Licensure Rule135-5-.04(c).

*Must have taken and passed a diagnosis (psychopathology) course or meet the licensure rule exemption:
In accordance with the SB 319 (2016) law, the Georgia Composite Board required that all MSW and CSW licensed in Georgia under O.C.G.A 43-10A complete the Psychopathology course (Rule 135-12-.02 Diagnosis) by January 1, 2018. The law allowed for an exemption of the following social workers: those who took the psychopathology course in graduate school or have 10 years of experience post LCSW in practice with persons with mental illness, substance abuse or developmental disabilities. 
 

*Be in good standing with the licensure and certification board in your state.

* As stated, to receive a certificate, your license must be in good standing with your state’s licensure board. Consequently, NASWGA highly recommends that registrants verify their licensure status with their licensure boards prior to registering for the program.

**If you do not have the prerequisites or meet these requirements, do not register for this course.

 What is required to receive the NASWGA Certification?
▪ Completion of the 24 hr. Introduction to Clinical Supervision Course.
▪ Pass an exam at the end of the course. The passing grade is 80%
▪All registrants are eligible for a certificate of program attendance and completion and 24 hours of instruction (6 being ethic hours). However, to receive the certification, registrants must pass the exam as noted above.

Important Notes:
The NASWGA Clinical Certificate is currently not a mandated requirement to perform clinical supervision in the state of Georgia. However, attendance and completion of the program demonstrates a mastery of materials covered along with an understanding of the significant role of the Clinical Social Work Supervisor. This program is recognized and approved by the National Association of Social Workers Georgia Chapter (NASWGA) Chapter and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Continuing Education Credentialing Program, while the continuing education hours are accepted by the Georgia Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists. Non-GA licensure attendees need to verify with the licensure boards in the state where they are licenses as to whether they will accept the continuing education credits administered by NASWGA.

The NASWGA Certification in Clinical Supervision does not supersede the rules and regulations set forth by the Georgia Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists, nor any other professional certification and licensure board, surrounding the provision of clinical supervision to social workers or other mental health professionals or the state laws which govern the profession of social work or other mental health professions.
Maintenance of the Certification: Recertification is required every licensure renewal cycle which in Georgia is 2 years to maintain the NASWGA Introductory Supervision Certificate.  Recertification hours required are 12.

Program Registration Fees - What is included in the program fee?

Non-Member:  $305.00

NASW/NASWGA Retired Member:  $190.00

2019 Clinical Supervision Participant: $150*

*Registration is for social workers who took the Clinical Supervision program in 2019 but elected to enroll in the New Clinical Supervision Course Certification track. The fee includes admission to the course and access to the program materials.

NOTE:  You cannot register via phone.  You must register on a laptop, desktop, or ipad.
Refund Policy
Refund requests must be made in writing and sent to NASW-GA at
exec.naswga@socialworkers.org (write in the subject box – Refund Request & List the Name of the event. And attach your Event Ticket). Refunds will be processed within 10-14 business days and refunds can be expected 14 days after processing. Refunds are mailed to the address provided by the registrant. The refund request schedule is as follows:

▪ For cancellation requests received four weeks before a scheduled event: You will receive a 100% refund of your registration fee.
▪ For cancellation requests received three weeks before the scheduled event: You will receive a 75% refund of your registration fee.
▪ For cancellation requests received two weeks before the scheduled event: You will receive a 50% refund of your registration fee.
▪ No refunds will be made for cancellation requests received a week before the scheduled event.
**NASW-GA regrets that there are No Refunds for No-Shows.  There are no exceptions to this policy.

How to Get Your Computer Ready for the Event:

■ It is recommended that you use a PC or MAC with an updated Internet Browser. We recommend Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Edge, or Safari. You will not be able to useInternet Explorer as it is too old to be compatible.
 

 ■ Make sure you have enough bandwidth to host the event. What is bandwidth? The maximum amount of data is transmitted over an internet connection each time. Bandwidth is often mistaken for internet speed when it is the volume of information that can be sent over a connection in a measured amount of time – calculated in megabits per second (Mbps). Modal. How do I know if I have enough bandwidth? Contact your internet provider and explain that you are participating in a virtual conference; share the number of days you are attending the Conference along with the time frame for each conference day, e.g., Friday, August 19, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., etc.

 
■ Make sure you have pop-up blockers disabled in your internet browser settings.

■ Make sure that your internet browser is active and enabled.

■ WIFI is not recommended. The problem with WIFI is signal strength can vary, causing bandwidth to increase or decrease.

■ We recommend a wired connection. A wired connection gives a consistent signal and consistent bandwidth. A wired connection provides a better experience.
 
■ Audio (sound) is projected through your computer speakers. Be sure your computer is equipped with speakers to hear the presenters.

■ Tech support – NASW-GA recommends that you test your computer at least 3 days before the event to ensure it is ready to host the event.
Registrants are welcome to reach out to Zoom with questions. Due to the variation in computer models and programming, NASW-GA staff are unable to offer direct tech support to registrants.
