Participants will be provided an overview of resources and documents related to older and disabled people regarding Social Security, VA Benefits, Advance Directives, and Financial Powers of Attorney.

Racheal G. Henderson

Ms. Henderson holds a J.D. from the University of Minnesota and has been a Specialist Attorney with Georgia Legal Services since 1982. She has also worked with the Ware County Community Coalition Board and numerous community advocacy programs, including securing a grant to create the McKinney Community Health Center in Waycross, Georgia. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Henderson was a volunteer with the Peace Corps in Thailand and established a standard of practice for leprosy hospitals and assisted with rehabilitation activities for rural Thais. Her current field of expertise is focused on Social Security and Veterans Law and has also done community education in these areas. She has always been a tireless advocate for the disadvantaged in Southeast Georgia.

Laura Weinstein Shiver

Ms. Shiver holds a J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University Birmingham, Alabama. She has worked with Georgia Legal Services since 1998 and served as its Managing Attorney since 2009, serving a 14-county area with limited resources and staff. She is an active member of the Brunswick-Glynn County Bar Association and of the Glynn County Domestic Violence Taskforce. Ms. Shiver is a strong presence in advocating for clients from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and established effective community relationships.
