LMSW/LCSW Alert: Licensure Rule Change
Effective THIS licensure cycle the Composite Board has changed the Rules related to Continuing Education deadlines.

Georgia licensed Social Worker must complete their continuing education (CE) hours for licensure renewal by September 30th of the even numbered year. The rule change removes the prior June 30 deadline, which encouraged licensees to submit their CE hours early. Since all license renewals are subject to audit, those waiting to complete the process, risk a delay which could extend beyond the license expiration date of September 30. Special Exception Regarding CE Credit: On July 9, 2010, the Composite Board agreed to allow licensees to apply CE credit earned from July 1, 2010 – September 30, 2010 to either the 2010 renewal or the 2012 renewal. Therefore, CE credit earned during this time frame can be used as needed for one renewal cycle or the other – but NOT BOTH.
 

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding the Rule Change

Can I use the continuing education hours earned between July 1, 2008 and October 1, 2008 for renewal this year?
YES, if the hours were NOT counted toward your 2008 renewal. In other words, you can not use any CE hours for this renewal period that were used for your 2008 renewal (aka no double dipping!).

When can I apply for renewal?
Now!  The on-line renewal feature for those licensed by the Composite Board has been activated.  You are encouraged to renew as soon as possible to avoid any problems/issues should you be randomly selected for an audit.  Click here to link to the renewal log-in. 

What are the dates of the licensure cycle that starts this year?
The new cycle will run from October 1, 2010 – September 30, 2012. You may apply CE credit earned from July 1, 2010 - September 30, 2010, if you did not count it towards your 2010 renewal.
