Description:

Although we might wish to deny it, “dual” or complex relationships occur repeatedly between therapists and clients.  Pretending they do not happen, or managing them through blanket prohibitions, is unhelpful and superficial.  Like all prohibitions, it drives the behavior underground. We will discuss the reality of such relationships and the dangers and opportunities they present for both therapy and supervision.  Participants are invited to bring examples of these dilemmas for discussion.

Participants will be able to identify the true nature of “dual” or complex relationships, with their dangers and opportunities; compare the myths about these relationships with the realities that occur almost daily; and discuss the rational and ethical management of these relationships through supervision, consultation and personal psychotherapy.

A licensure renewal station will be provided during the NASW-GA Pre-Conference workshops to assist Pre-Conference attendees in renewing licenses online to meet the Current Licensure Cycle Renewal deadline.
